As I write this, Book 2 in my Secrets of Edgemont series is with my copy editor and beta readers. After it goes through another round of edits and proofreading, it should be ready to come out in September! I’ll have a more exact release date next month. In the meantime, while it’s being copy edited, I’m planning its launch, working on a short story, and tinkering with another novel idea.
I’ll also soon be plotting Book 3. When I say plotting, I mean coming up with a loose outline of plot points that I then break down by chapter—usually just a sentence or two. I’m not an outliner. That’s always felt too restrictive for me. On the other hand, I’m not a total pantser (one who writes by the seat of her pants). The plodding usually comes when I’m writing and get to the middle of the book, but my loose outline helps with that. It gives me enough of a guide as I write, but it also allows for change along the way. It took me a while to refine this process, but it seems to work for me.
For those of you following my injured-tongue saga, believe it or not, I still have a touch of numbness. It has been 10 weeks since the dental procedure that caused the paresthesia! It feels like one tiny nerve fiber at a time comes back online each day. Current status: It’s kind of scratchy around the tip—an improvement from the off-and-on burning and stinging. It’s not an experience I want to repeat!
I hope you’re having a good summer (or winter, depending on your hemisphere).
Take care!
